Subcision

Subcision is a gentle yet effective technique that helps restore smoothness and confidence to the skin.

Subcutaneous incision, also known as subcision, is a procedure used to break up the fibrous bands that cause depressed rolling scars in the skin. Performed under local anesthesia, subcision involves inserting a small needle under the skin, positioned parallel to the surface. The needle is advanced and retracted in a piston-like motion within the plane between the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, cutting through the tethering bands. This process helps to release the depressed scars, improving the skin’s appearance.

Needling (or Microneedling)

  • A device with fine needles (or a small blade in some cases) is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin. These tiny punctures break down the scar tissue beneath the skin’s surface, triggering the skin’s natural healing process.
  • The practitioner carefully moves the device back and forth over the scar tissue to ensure even treatment.

Healing and Results

  • As the skin heals, collagen production is stimulated, which helps regenerate the skin and improve its texture. Over time, this results in the gradual reduction of scars, making them less noticeable.
  • The healing process also helps improve skin elasticity and smoothness, providing a more even appearance to the treated area.

What is subcision treatment ?

Subcutaneous incision, also known as Subcision, is used to break up the fibrous bands that cause depressed rolling scars in the skin.

Subcision is performed under local anesthesia by inserting a small needle under the skin so that it is parallel to the skin surface. Staying in the plane between the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue, the needle is gently advanced and retracted in a piston-like motion cutting the tethering bands. This will free up the depressed scars.

This procedure causes bruising which fades after about 1 week. As the treated areas heal, new collagen is laid down in the scars and this will plump them up.

The risks of subcision include bleeding and the formation of subcutaneous nodules. Bleeding can be controlled with proper use of anesthetics and bandaging, and the subcutaneous nodules can be treated with injection of corticosteroids into the nodule.

On average it takes about 20-40 minutes to treat any given area.
